Three Things to Look for in a Personal injury Lawyer
Finding good legal counsel and representation is sometimes just as stressful as facing whatever legal battle may be ahead of you. The outcome of your case can depend heavily on the person you choose to hire to help you through the process. There are a lot of factors that should determine which lawyer is right for you, but here are a few basic things to look for.
Obviously, one of the most important things to look for in a personal injury lawyer is expertise. Look into where potential lawyers went to school and what they studied. See how long they have been in practice and how many different firms they have worked with. Additionally, make sure that she has plenty of experience in the area of personal injury you need representation for (like product liability, car accidents, or medical malpractice, for example). Look at her previous cases to find out how successful she was.
Community and Legal Involvement
This might seem to be an odd thing to look for, but see if they hold any community positions or are a part of any legal organizations. This could indicate dedication to the legal system and expertise in the field — usually organizations and associations require some level of proficiency or have special standards for acceptance.
Another thing you need to look for when you’re looking for a personal injury attorney is likability. You need to be able to communicate well and often with your lawyer, so having one you don’t like could become problematic. Your lawyer is going to need to know all of the details surrounding your case to be able to build the best case for you, so you need to be able to communicate effectively which can be hard if you don’t get along well. Additionally, it can’t hurt to have a likable lawyer in the courtroom either.
